On November 8th, Omaha gathered beneath the haunting glow of the Mourning Moon for an unforgettable night at Verdict Bar. Known as November’s full moon, the Mourning Moon holds powerful meaning across history and folklore. It represents release, reflection, and the shedding of what no longer serves us before winter settles in. It is the final full moon before the cold season’s stillness, a time when energy turns inward, creativity stirs in the shadows, and transformation quietly begins.
It was under this symbolic moon that the Mystic Moon event came to life.
The night marked more than a celestial celebration, it marked the beginning of a new chapter for Omaha’s dark, creative community. Mystic Moon officially kicked off the ongoing partnership between SLAB and Mourning Dolls, a collaboration born from a shared vision: to carve out a space in Omaha where alternative, goth, and dark-hearted artists and souls can gather, express themselves, and feel at home.
Our mission is to build a community rooted in acceptance, support, and collaboration. A place where every outsider, dreamer, creator, performer, and shadow-dweller can stand together and feel seen.
Inside Verdict Bar, the energy was electric and warm all at once. Artists, performers, photographers, goths, metalheads, witches, punks, and lovers of the strange all mingled beneath dim lights, sharing inspiration, stories, and creative sparks. It wasn’t just an event, it felt like a beginning. A promise. A signal that Omaha’s alternative scene is alive, growing, and ready to rise together.
The Mystic Moon event was only the first step.
SLAB and Mourning Dolls will continue working side by side to bring more gatherings, workshops, showcases, and darkly creative experiences to the city. Whether you’re an artist longing for a supportive network, or simply a soul who feels most alive in the glow of the strange and beautiful, this space is being built for you.
Under the Mourning Moon, we shed the old and began anew.
And this is only the beginning.
